Introduction

Hello. I'm Charlie. Bonded and insured, I have over 20 years of experience working in the art world, general contracting and furniture/architectural fabrication. Over the last several years, I've concentrated on art installation. Clients regularly ask me to advise on art placement in their homes. I also work with many interior designers, all of whom value my aesthetic input. When you hire me, you'll be getting an expert in art hanging, along with the added benefit of 'design services'. **NOTE ON MY PAY RATE**: In most cases, I price by the job, taking scope and complexity into account. This pricing system is transparent and equitable for all parties because I work quickly and meticulously. To put it plainly, you won't see me moving at half speed to prolong a paid by the hour job. Please check out my reviews for confirmation! Services I provide specifically through Thumbtack include: --Picture hanging and art installation --Window treatments --Lighting installation --Ceiling fan installation --Closet and shelving systems *I also do TV mounting Installing all manner of objects (art, heavy items, mirrors, shelves, etc.) is also a specialty of mine. I have expertise in what I call the "Big Three": materials, fasteners and tools. Knowing how these interact with each other in any scenario is the key to success on the technical side. I'm an excellent listener and a very clear communicator, qualities that are critical when dealing with clients. *I do provide a COI at an additional cost ($40) if that's required by your building. NOTE ON LIGHTING INSTALLATIONS: While I have years of experience installing all kinds of light fixtures, outlets, switches, etc., I AM NOT A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN. If your building or your particular job requires one, PLEASE CONSIDER THIS BEFORE CONTACTING ME. Thanks.

About Us
  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My quotes are based on what I charge for a finished project, so scale and complexity are factored in. I work quickly and meticulously, so this pricing arrangement benefits both myself and you, the client. If a ladder or COI is needed, I have a $40 fee.
  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I reach out to introduce myself, and try to get a feel for the job--what it is that the customer needs done, and figure out what specific tools and methods will be best.
  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over twenty years of experience in contracting, architectural and furniture fabrication, lighting installations and art gallery work. I have a degree in Architectural Technology and a certificate as a home inspector.
  • How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began as a carpenter's helper shortly after college, and it snowballed into what is now a career as an all-around installer of artwork, closets/shelving, TV's, window treatments, lighting and more.
  • What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked with customers who needed everything from a TV mounted in a small NYC apartment to clients whose properties I've spent over a year in for complete renovations.
  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Last month, I hung a group of six shelves which were made of thick rough-cut wood; they needed to be placed very precisely and affixed to wall strongly enough so that they would support not only the heavy shelf itself, but the books that the client planned to place on them.
  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When possible, it's helpful to speak to the provider over the phone, but if not, a customer should ask how often the provider does the sort of work the customer needs, and what background they have in the area.
  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
A customer would always do well to consider whether there is anything out of the ordinary about the work they need done. Are there any especially heavy or oversized items? Is there anything about their apartment that might prolong the work, like very high ceilings, concrete surfaces, etc.?
